The next morning we checked out of our hotel in Nairobi and our new driver, Robert, picked us up in our safari vehicle. Paula, if I didn't thank you for arranging to have our own safari vehicle for the duration, I'm thanking you now. It was approximately a 3 hour drive from Nairobi to Flamingo Hill. Robert was very good about naming the towns we drove through, explaining where the rift valley starts and ends and telling us what African tribes lived in the areas we drove through, such as Kikuyu.
Below are pictures of Robert and our vehicle, our tent at Flamingo Hill and our game drive that afternoon. We were barely minutes into our game drive when we saw lions and immediately thereafter, baboons. We also saw 2 white rhinos at different times. We saw many different species of birds and giraffes on our way back to camp.
Lake Nakuru is popular for the stunning pictures of millions of flamingos feeding in Lake Nakuru. Unfortunately we went at the wrong time of year as the lake was too high for proper flamingo feeding. We weren't shedding too many tears because we had a great game drive!
