Sunday, 1/8/12 - Headed to Mugonero Hospital

Today was spent driving to Mugonero Hospital located in a small, remote village in Mugonero, Rwanda. Our drive began on a paved road for approximately half the way to the hospital. Whenever we took little breaks along the side of the road, children and villagers would gather. Rwanda is called the land of a thousand hills. Hopefully I captured that in some of these pictures.

And in true African form, and like a scene out of "IRT Worlds Deadliest Roads," we soon came upon this large truck hauling wood, stuck in the middle of the road and blocking any traffic coming from either direction. The full moon began to rise, frogs began croaking, fireflies began blinking, and villagers gathered as we sat and waited. I actually found it very peaceful and was content to spend the night however, the hospital sent an old and decrepit van/bus thing to rescue us.
